After a couple of very nice days on the Isle of Harris and the Isle of Lewis it was time to return to the mainland to move on. The morning was mainly spent packing, updating the travelogue and taking a quick look around Stornoway. Soon lunchtime arrived and the ferry to take me back to the mainland was waiting. We left Stornoway early in the afternoon:
The 2.5 hours crossing was very nice with some interesting views, unfortunately very difficult to take pictures of. I had an interesting discussion with a couple I had met on Lewis and we spoke about our experiences on Harris and Lewis. From Ullapool I started to make my way north with a short stop at Knockan Crag. The weather wasn't very good and I didn't have enough time, but from what I saw this seems to be a good stop for a walk and to learn about geology. The area around Assynt seems to be a very good area to learn about geological activities. This was also visible in the hotel I stayed in: Several famous geologists have visited and stayed at the Inchnadamph Hotel near Loch Assynt. My room had a nice view over Loch Assynt and after a meal and a wee dram of whisky (Bruichladdich, as you ask) I went to bed.
